Prefixes and Suffixes

Since we have been discussing how prefixes and suffixes can help us figure out the meaning of unknown words, create a blog post in which you answer the following points: 

• What is a prefix?
• What is a suffix? 
• How can these word parts help us define the meaning of an unknown word? 
• Give some examples of words that contain prefixes and suffixes.What does each mean? What is the meaning of the whole word? 
• Respond and comment to at least three classmates.

Fractions

We have begun to learn how to compare fractions with the same numerators and denominators, how to move between fractions and mixed numbers, and how to find equivalent fractions. 

• Create one post in which you choose and explain a fractional topic we have learned. 
• Include either a link or an image that helps illustrate/explain your point within your post. Feel free to do both. 
• Check the blog regularly and comment and respond to at least three (3) classmates. 
• Remember that this is an educational tool and follow up is necessary after class time in order to solidify our knowledge. 

Setting

As we are reading our fiction texts, we are focusing on setting, characters, and plot. We know that setting is defined as where and when a story takes place. Consider the following:

• What is the setting of your story right now?
• How does the setting influence the plot?
• Create one post (1) and respond to three (3) classmates. 

Synonyms

We have learned that while reading, you may see questions centered around the reading strand word meaning and choice. These questions sometimes require the reader to find synonyms. Create one (1) post on the blog and respond to two (2) peers.

• How can you use synonyms to help you answer questions?
• What are some pairs of synonyms that you have learned?

Check the blog before class numerous times and engage in a conversation with your peers. 

Word Problems

Over the past week, we have learned how to solve addition and subtraction word problems. We made charts that explained the math words associated with each operation. We also learned how to mark our word problems in order to better evaluate them.

• Create a post in which you create either an addition or a subtraction word problem.
• Try to solve two (2) of your classmates word problems. What are the math words that you would box?

Base-10 Number System

We began analyzing how the Base 10 Number System uses place value to assign digits a value name within a number. Create one (1) post sharing what you know about place value and respond to two (2) of your classmates. ( Hint: use the red vocabulary words to help you begin writing.)

"Getting to Know You"

As we begin our year together, we all have different goals, aspirations, and reasons for coming to class.

• Create one (1) post in which you introduce yourself and explain your reasons for coming to class and any positive or negative experiences with math, reading, or writing in the past. 
• Respond to three (3) classmates' posts.
